Applied Fiber Rope Options

Applied Fiber Manufacturing provides and improves the strength of Dyneema rope through both its termination end fitting technology and rope assembly manufacturing capabilities.

Dyneema rope has one of the highest strength to weight ratios of the performance fiber ropes available, and can be up to 10X lighter than an equivalent strength steel cable. Dyneema fiber is made from a High Modulus Polyethylene (HMPE) that carries exceptional properties in relation to high strength, low stretch, low weight, and low friction. HMPE fiber is also considered the lightest of the high modulus fibers, and will float in water. Dyneema rope provides excellent strength with minimal weight and is used for many lifting and mooring applications in tough marine environments.

Dyneema rope can be twisted or braided into a number of rope, cable and cord constructions including high strength 12 strand and parallel fiber ropes. Dyneema fiber is available in different grades including SK75, SK78 and DM20. In addition Dyneema Purity® is available specifically for medical applications where high strength and small diameters are required.

Termination of high modulus fiber like Dyneema rope has long been a great challenge faced by many engineers as the rope will often fail at the termination due to poor efficiency translation. A knot for example can reduce the ropes strength by up to 50% and will seat and slip under load. When used in tension, rope and cords are only as strong as their end fitting.
