Spectra Rope Terminations
Applied Fiber Rope Options
Applied Fiber Manufacturing provides Spectra rope and improves the strength of Spectra rope through advanced termination end fitting technologies and rope assembly technologies.
Spectra rope has one of the highest strength to weight ratios of the performance fiber ropes available, and can be up to 10X lighter than an equivalent strength steel cable. Spectra fiber is made from a High Modulus Polyethylene (HMPE) that carries exceptional properties in relation to high strength, low stretch, low weight, and low friction. HMPE fiber is also considered the lightest of the high strength / high modulus fibers, and the only one to float in water.
Spectra rope can be twisted or braided in to a number of rope, cable and cord constructions including high strength 12 strand ropes, parallel fiber ropes, wire constructions, etc. Spectra fiber that makes up the rope is available in two primary grades based on performance; Spectra 900 for medium strength / medium modulus applications, and Spectra 1000 for high strength / high modulus applications.
Spectra rope has a number of benefits including best strength to weight ratios, excellent elastic properties, excellent internal friction characteristics, flex fatigue resistance, and good UV and chemical resistance.
Termination of high modulus fiber like Spectra rope has long been a great challenge faced by many engineers as the rope will often fail at the termination because of the poor efficiency of the termination method. A knot for example a knot can reduce the ropes strength by up to 50% and will seat and slip. When used in tension, rope and cables are only as strong as their end fitting. Applied Fiber provides a highly efficient means to terminate Spectra rope and Spectra cables to produce finished assemblies that are unparalleled, providing exceptional connection versatility and reliability.
Applied Fiber utilizes patented technologies to apply end fittings or terminations to Spectra rope and other high modulus fibers in a tightly controlled manufacturing environment producing consistent and predictable results that are tested and measured.
Applied Fiber provides its customers precision cut to length and terminated Spectra rope assemblies that can simply drop into their own products. Applied Fiber provides engineered rope and termination solutions for its customers worldwide. Honeywell Inc, the manufacturer of Spectra fiber, recognizes the technology to maximize strength efficiency of its fiber in a rope or cable application and recommends Applied Fiber as a termination and assembly expert.
